Metris Dashboard Warning Lights Explained
Hazard Warning Light
Icon: Triangle with an exclamation point in the middle.
Meaning: This is a general warning light that accompanies other warning lights, namely the ESP® and ASR® lights.
Coolant Temperature Light
Icon: Two red wavy lines with a temperature gauge in the middle.
Meaning: The coolant temperature is rising above normal, or the temperature gauge needs attention.
Coolant Level Light
Icon: Fluid reservoir with wavy fluid lines at the bottom.
Meaning: Too little coolant in the reservoir, putting your Metris Van at risk of overheating on the road in Costa Mesa or Huntington Beach. As soon as it’s safe, pull off the road. Wait for the engine to cool down, then add more coolant. You should follow up with a service appointment to ensure everything is up to spec under the hood of your Metris.
Airbag Light
Icon: A seated figure with a deployed airbag.

Brake Light

Oil Level Light

Meaning: The oil is low, the display is malfunctioning, or the oil level sensor needs attention.
Glow Plug Light
Icon: Yellow coil
Meaning: This lets you know when the glow plugs are in the process of heating the engine’s cylinders. The light should turn off within one minute; if it doesn’t, you should request a service appointment as soon as possible
Tire Pressure Light
Icon: Flat tire with an exclamation mark
Meaning: Low-pressure conditions have been identified in one or more of the tires.
ABS Warning Light
Icon: “ABS” in a circle with parentheses
Meaning: This means that the Anti-Lock Brake System is deactivated, including the ESP®, BAS®, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, and Hill-Start Assist. Your brakes will still function to slow and stop your vehicle, but the system will not respond to emergency braking.
Diesel Engine Fuel (DEF) Light
Icon: A puff of air with two fluid droplets on top of a wavy line
Meaning: If accompanied by the Check Engine Light, there may be a problem with the exhaust gas aftertreatment system. On its own, the DEF light may indicate low DEF supply, contaminated DEF, or thinning DEF.
Brake Pad Linings Light
Icon: Circle with two curved dotted lines on the outside
Meaning: If you see this light, it means your brake pads have thinned to unsafe levels. Replace the Metris brake pads without delay.
ASR®/BAS® Light
Icon: Rolling tire with a vertical arrow
Meaning: If the light comes on and stays illuminated, Acceleration Skid Control (ASR®) is disabled due to a malfunction. If the light flashes and then goes off, one or more tires have maximized their grip.
ESC or ESP® Light
Icon: A vehicle with two wavy skid marks behind it
Meaning: Electronic Stability Control (ESC)—formerly known as Electronic Stability Program (ESP®)—is deactivated. If your vehicle loses control when this light is on, ESC will not mitigate.
Contaminated Air Filter Light
Icon: Dots surrounded by two solid lines on the outside and two crossed downward arrows in the middle
Meaning: The air filter is clogged and needs to be replaced as soon as possible.
Water in Fuel Light
Icon: Fuel pump with water drop next to it
Meaning: The water separator in the fuel filter has retained the maximum amount of water and must be drained.
Low Battery Light
Icon: Battery with – and + symbols
Meaning: Your Metris battery isn’t charging properly. This could be caused by a malfunction in the alternator or the poly-v belt, or there could be an issue in the electrical system.
Bulb Warning Light
Icon: Light bulb with an exclamation mark
Meaning: One of the exterior bulbs is burnt out. Check all lights and replace any burned-out bulbs.
