How Often to Change Sprinter Cabin Filter

If you notice an odor when you enter your Sprinter Van, it may be time to replace the Sprinter air cabin filter. Among all the items on the Sprinter maintenance schedule, replacing the cabin air filter is one of the more frequently required tasks — especially if you take your Sprinter on dusty job sites around Irvine and Costa Mesa. How often to change the air cabin filter in your Sprinter depends on the driving conditions it’s subjected to, but the average recommendation is every 15,000 miles. Learn more about the Sprinter air cabin filter with Fletcher Jones Van Center, below.

What Does a Sprinter Air Cabin Filter Do?

Just like the cabin air filter in a passenger car, the Sprinter Van cabin air filter cleans the air that passes through the HVAC system. As you drive around Huntington Beach, all kinds of contaminants like dirt, dust, and pollen make their way into the system, but the cabin air filter acts as a barrier, preventing them from getting through the vents and into your cabin so you enjoy clean air on every drive. Eventually, the filter becomes so full of these particles that it becomes clogged and can no longer effectively filter the air. That’s when you may start to smell a musty odor from your vents.

When to Change Your Sprinter Cabin Air Filter

Ideally, you will remember to change the Sprinter cabin air filter before you smell anything unpleasant or your allergies start flaring up while driving in Laguna Beach. You will need to think intuitively about your driving habits to help determine how often to change the air cabin filter in your Sprinter Van:

  • Under extreme conditions, Mercedes-Benz recommends changing the cabin air filter every 10,000 miles — this could apply to you if you drive a lot of miles every day, frequently enter dusty job sites, or are frequently stuck in traffic where pollution levels are elevated.
  • If the above doesn’t apply to you, then you probably only need to change the Sprinter air cabin filter every 15,000–30,000 miles.

We are always happy to inspect your filter when your Sprinter is at our service center for other maintenance! If it’s clogged, we’ll replace it and send you home in a clean-smelling cabin.
